It all started back August/2003, when Ghassan met up with Ahmed in Rotana's music store. It was soon clear that they both shared an appreciation of metal music and in particular doom. A few more meetings whereby they discussed the local metal scene in Saudi Arabia ''which was widely unknown '' brought up the possibility of maybe having a mildly successful band and they decided that they wanted to start something sometime.
In October 2004 after a period of circumstantial absence, Ahmed called Ghassan which seemed completely out of the blue since the two had not spoken nor met in such a long time. Straight away Ahmed proposed the idea of starting a band again and they met up a few hours later.
Not wasting anymore time they got down to working on the band.
Ahmed was assigned to song writer/lead vocal duties and Ghassan as lead Guitarist. Emad from Wasted land came on board as drummer and the serious work started with a song entitled 'The house of gloomy Anna'.
Rehearsing sessions lasted for weeks and newly filed with passion and eagerness they began working on another unnamed track. During this period they were looking for a name to suit the band's attitude. They came up with a few names such as (Weeping Winter, Dark Vision) But they felt unoriginal. Little did they know that their name ''Grieving Age''was already there in front of them. it was picked out of their own lyrics and all agreed on the name.
While working on their single, they met Abdullah. They liked his piano style, approached him with their band's idea andin a few days he joined.
Ghassan suggested then that Ayman from Wasted Land should join on 2nd guitar and gladly he accepted.
With the new and fuller lineup the band left the older songs aside and chose to focus on their new one, entitled 'My River'. With a hunger now to record their new track, they went to Yazid who is drummer with local band Panjiah and along with Khalid(ex-guitarist of Panjiah) who worked on the song as a sound engineer/producer, The song was completed by theend of Feb 2005 and re-titled as 'My Hopeless River'. By that time Diya had arrived from Al-Dhahran and joined the band as a rhythm guitarist/violinist, with Ayman on bass.
'My Hopeless River' received great reviews from the metal fans in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Lebanon. Working on their second project entitled 'Have I sinned'; they got back to their doom/death metal roots which were clearly influenced by ''My Dying Bride and Old Anathema''. Diya's workings on this song was astonishing. The song was recorded as a live demo.
Well known by now in the local metal scene the band got an invitation to perform in the SA Metal gig but due to circumstances ,couldn't make.
They started working on the third track previously entitled 'A nightmare within a nightmare' and then another entitled 'Nocturnal realm of desolation'.
Mohammed Shata joined the band as a bassist after Aymans shortterm departure and soon after Mohammed left also.
In 2008 the band travelled to Al Dammam (Eastern region),to record their debut album. They entrusted the task to Kamal Al Nauimi from Deathless Anguish. and put their faith in that he could bring the most of Grieving Age's vicious sound.
The recording session didn't take more than 20 days to accomplish and afterwards they contacted Dan Swano at Unisound for Mixing and Mastering duties.
Aaron Stainthorpe was responsible for all CD artwork and logo.
The album saw the light on the 16th of July.
